Top 5 Reasons to Drive for Lyft and Uber this December

Hello again!  As many of you know, I am a stay-at-home mom, and I love my job!  It is amazing to get to see my three kids grow up everyday. But ya know what a SAHM doesn’t get?  A salary. I know, it’s a crime really. But, because I don’t have a regular income, money can get tight around here (my husband is a Medical Resident).  SO, I have a side hustle!

Most afternoons after my husband gets home from work, one of us goes out driving for Lyft or Uber.  They are “rideshare” services, where you pick up and drop off passengers who register via app.

Maybe being a rideshare driver has never crossed your mind.  Maybe you’ve been toying with the idea for a while. Well here are the top 5 reasons YOU should sign up RIGHT NOW with Lyft AND Uber to become a driver:

5) It’s easy

They make it very easy to sign up as a driver.  You just fill in the application, submit to a background check, and boom you are on the road.  They will send you a sticker for your car in the mail, but you can print one out while you are waiting.

4) It’s safe

I used to get nervous being a Lyft and Uber driver that something scary would happen to me from a passenger.  I am a woman and I know there are inherent risks to being a woman in a space like this, but I literally never feel scared anymore.  After driving for a couple of years, nothing even CLOSE has happened. People are generally extremely kind to me.  Also, every passenger is registered, so if someone is inappropriate or dangerous, their account is suspended indefinitely.

3) You set your own schedule

Maybe you are also a stay-at-home-mom, or maybe you have a job that just isn’t paying a lot.  Either way, it is hard to get another full or part time job because scheduling is so tough. With Lyft and Uber, anytime you feel like you want to earn a couple bucks, you can turn the app on.  Turn it off when you get bored or tired or hungry. Some days I plan to drive, but then get a headache and decide not to. I don’t need to call anyone to fill in for me. I just don’t click a button!

2) Bonus Christmas Cash!

Right now, in Phoenix Arizona, my husband and I are averaging about $20 per hour when we drive.  So if one of us only drives 2 hours for 5 days a week, we are bringing in an extra $200 per week.  That is amazing! It is time we would have spent flipping through Facebook or watching a movie. Even if you only drive from now until Christmas you can make enough money to put some extra gifts under the tree.

What does this have to do with Disney?  Well nothing directly, but indirectly it gives us extra funds to take trips as a family, like going to Disney Parks.  I saw a picture the other day of a sign a driver put in their car that said “You give a tip, I take a trip!” and I loved that.  It’s great to have a little extra money to have fun with.

Do you drive for Uber or Lyft? Have you ever thought of doing so?  Do you have any questions about it? Let me know in the comments!
